Literature Text

grow up in the mountains, littered
with painted leaves and waterfalls
dance your pre-school ballet number
and pretend you were
a fairy born in Neverland.
because reality is painful;
you can't fly away
from mommy's sick,
delusional screams.

grow, and grow some more
learn that crazy is contagious
and insanity is viral
as mom gets better
and you're the sick one
who can't stop screaming.
but make sure your screams
are silent
as you stain
 your throat
a ragged crimson.

learn to love the moon
lording over an indigo sky
because your Neverland is
still behind your eyelids
when you dream.
scribble
erase
scribble
erase
scribble, scribble, scribble
words in your head
are flying away in blots and script
and your Neverland becomes
your hiding place
nestled in mountains and waterfalls
between crinkled paper and ink.

make fake friends
lose them.
make one real friend
swear to keep her forever
no matter what.
fall in love
but find too soon that
a writer's heart is best left broken
and bleeding out in ink.

learn about depression firsthand
how it shrinks your world to the doorstep
because stepping beyond that is
too
damn
hard.
swear you'll never curse
break your promise
a little.

take a blue pill
and step outside anyway.
  live again.
pretend it's because
you wanted to
  and move on.

open your eyes.
see life, death, and
those in-between bits like dreaming.
close them again.
find the line between
the two worlds you've seen:
"reality".
ignore it
because it frightens you
because you're a mother
and your children are
wrapped in swaddling cloth of letters.

if you see a world
behind and beyond your eyelids
congratulations.
you're halfway there.
all you need
is a pen, paper, and
words.
they don't have to be
perfect
because you and i are
broken, twisted people
who might only breathe oxygen
to rewrite the need for air
beneath a different set of stars.
Hm. A definitely-much-crappier version prompted by the lovely *intricately-ordinary. I admit, poetry is still a new thing to me; I usually write novels. -hides- But, after seeing more of the sort by legends such as =DrippingWords and *0hgravity, I just had to try it. I swear, I'll come back and redo this...someday. Here is my humble offering.

This is just amazing. Some of the lines you wrote will stay with me for a long while from now on, maybe I'll never forget them!! <3 ;u;
